Gov’t expands primary and preventative healthcare

President Dr Irfaan Ali highlighted ongoing investments in primary and preventative healthcare to reduce disease risks across Guyana.

Over the past three years, 25 new health centres and health posts have been built, with 10 more under construction.

Each centre will deliver services for at least 116 medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

“We are investing heavily in primary healthcare and preventative medicine through public education, early screening, and access to lab facilities and testing. This will not only create an effective system that reduces disease risk but also ensure that the next generation of Guyanese has the data and screening support needed for a long and healthy life,” President Ali said.

He also highlighted the School Health Programme, which screens children across all levels, and the Women’s Health Programme, which now provides expanded breast cancer and cervical cancer screening, HPV testing, and HPV vaccination using Gardasil-9.
