Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) the Honourable Mark Phillips is attending the 55th Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) Meeting of Energy Ministers, held as part of the 10th edition of OLADE Energy Week in Santiago, Chile, running from September 30 to October 3, 2025.

The Meeting of Energy Ministers is a key feature of Energy Week, bringing together representatives from OLADE member states to discuss critical energy issues, including decarbonisation, energy security, digitalisation, regional integration, and just energy transitions.

Guyana continues to play an active role within OLADE, both at the ministerial level and through its membership in the Council of Experts. This advisory body provides technical support to the Energy Ministers Meeting and the Organisation’s Permanent Secretariat, serves as a preparatory commission for the meeting, and implements activities and studies as mandated by OLADE’s highest governing body.

Among the main agenda items are the election of the Executive Secretary of OLADE for the 2026–2029 term, the academic event Connecting Minds, Energizing the Future, the Latin American and Caribbean Youth in Energy Summit, the second edition of the OLADE Awards for Energy Excellence, the launch of the White Paper on Sustainable Mobility for Latin America and the Caribbean, the 2nd International Seminar on Energy Interconnection in Latin America, and the third meeting of OLADE’s Business Council, under the theme Old and New Challenges: Building LAC’s Future Energy Agenda.

The events are co-organised by the Government of the Republic of Chile, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank (WB), and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), alongside other key partners.

Prime Minister Phillips is accompanied by Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), Dr Mahender Sharma, as Guyana engages with regional counterparts to strengthen its role in shaping the future of energy development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
