A man’s body was discovered on Monday morning at Quart Stone Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.
According to reports, 50-year-old Calvin Johnson, a Guyanese security guard employed with a Russian company operating in the area, contacted the Bartica Police Station around 11:30 hours to report the incident.
Johnson told police that at about 10:00 hours, a woman known as Uma visited the compound and informed him that a male Venezuelan national was lying dead on the roadway. She reportedly told Johnson that she had received information suggesting the man had been beaten by other Venezuelan nationals.
Upon receiving the report, Johnson said he went to the location where he observed the man’s motionless body covered with a multi-coloured hammock, with his face exposed. He stated that he took photographs of the scene before returning to his camp and contacting the Bartica Police Station.
Detectives from Bartica are currently en route to Quart Stone Backdam to conduct investigations into the incident.
