Authorities from the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) are investigating two related incidents stemming from a land mining dispute in the Toroparo area, Region Seven, which took place last evening.
The first altercation, captured on video, involved personnel linked to miner Ronaldo Alphonso and a group that included rangers Marvis Hillman and Edson Carter. The encounter reportedly escalated to the alleged discharge of firearms by Alphonso’s security team. The video also features the voice of Mitchell Watson.
A second incident, also documented on video, involved security agent Leon Wilkinson, ranger Edson Carter, and security personnel Randy Allen in discussions with Juleth George of GM Alphonso Mining and operator William Hill, indicating continuing tensions between the parties.
In response, Police Force ranks in Region Seven initiated investigations, which included the arrest of all individuals involved and the seizure of relevant firearms.
To prevent further conflict and maintain order, a joint operational team comprising police officers led by an inspector and GGMC personnel were deployed to monitor the situation on-site.
