A 19-year-old police constable has been remanded to prison after being charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
According to a police report, Erwin Gentle, of Supenaam, Essequibo Coast, was arrested by a rank from Regional Division 4B Headquarters and charged on October 6, 2025, by an officer from the Division’s Gender-Based Violence Unit with rape of a child under sixteen years.
The matter was heard at the Friendship Magistrates’ Court before Her Worship Magistrate Tameika Clarke. The charge was read to Gentle, who was not required to plead. He was remanded to prison pending further proceedings.
The case has been adjourned to October 27, 2025, for the presentation of protection statements.
Police said the charge arises from an allegation involving a 14-year-old girl. The investigation is ongoing.
