Three men have been remanded to prison in connection with the murder of 73-year-old Kamaluddin Abrahim, also known as “Richard,” of Lot 111 Free Yard, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.

Deceased: 73-year-old Kamaluddin Abrahim

The accused are 29-year-old Premchand Ramsohai, a mason of Port Mourant; 46-year-old Rajendra Balkaran, a harvester of Lot 3 Kitten Dam, Rose Hall; and 33-year-old Darwin Trim, a cane harvester of Free Yard, Port Mourant, who appeared via Zoom.

The trio appeared before Magistrate Michelle Mathias at Reliance Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where they were formally charged with murdering Abrahim between June 26 and July 1, 2023. Police Prosecutor Mark Edwards told the court that the case file is complete.

The matter was transferred to Albion Magistrate’s Court for disclosure on October 14, 2025. All three defendants were remanded to prison.

According to police reports, Abrahim was first reported missing on July 1, 2023, by his son, 39-year-old Shazad Abrahim, an electrician of East Bank Demerara, who said he had been unable to contact his father.

Two days later, on July 3, a fisherman discovered a decomposed body in a clump of bushes along the Rose Hall Town foreshore. The remains were later positively identified by Shazad Abrahim. A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was unascertainable due to the advanced state of decomposition.
