Police are investigating an alleged wounding incident that occurred around 15:30 hrs on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Coverden, East Bank Demerara, during which a couple and their 18-month-old granddaughter sustained knife injuries.

The victims have been identified as Indira Thomas, 53, a housewife, William Thomas, 68, a businessman — both of Coverden — and their 18-month-old granddaughter. The suspect, Wilfred Aaron, 68, a construction worker of the same area, has since been arrested.

According to the police, the victims and the suspect are neighbours who are not on speaking terms due to ongoing disputes. Reports indicate that the incident occurred while the Thomases were returning home after collecting their granddaughter from a daycare and playgroup in Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

While in traffic at Land of Canaan, the suspect allegedly began verbally abusing William Thomas and issued threats. The businessman exited his vehicle to address the situation, at which point the suspect reportedly armed himself with a knife and attacked him, causing injuries to his abdomen and ear.

During the altercation, the 18-month-old child sustained injuries to her left wrist, while Indira Thomas, who attempted to intervene, suffered wounds to her elbow, palm, and three fingers on her right hand.

The victims were taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they were examined, treated, and later discharged.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
