A coordinated, multi-agency effort is underway to enhance service delivery and strengthen security at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation (CJIAC).
According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation, Senior Minister Deodat Indar and Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond met with several stakeholders and heads of agencies on Monday to reaffirm the importance of providing quality service and maintaining a robust security framework at the airport.
The Ministry said that operational readiness in key areas was assessed during the meeting, which brought various matters to the attention of airline representatives, concessionaires, ground handlers, and other stakeholders.
Among the key figures participating in the discussions were National Security Advisor Capt. Gerald Gouveia, Chairman of the CJIAC Board Sanjeev Datadin, CJIAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramesh Ghir, Guyana Civil Aviation Authority’s Capt. Egbert Field, and Deputy Commissioner of Operations of the Guyana Police Force, Errol Watts.
In addition to security improvements, the Ministry also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the passenger experience at CJIAC through the use of smart technologies and improved service provision.
This follows a recent meeting between CEO Ramesh Ghir and senior executives from Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA), aimed at advancing the airport’s technology modernization plans.
“The discussions focused on integrating biometrics and other smart technologies to improve service quality and reduce processing times for passengers — key elements of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s vision to make CJIAC a modern, digital gateway,” the Ministry said.
Plans under consideration include the introduction of self-check-in kiosks, off-airport services such as flight information and baggage tag printing at major hotels, and self-bag drop options — all designed to enhance convenience and efficiency for travelers.
SITA’s team reaffirmed their commitment to Guyana, pledging to deploy advanced technology solutions to support CJIAC’s transformation into a regional leader in passenger experience.
