A 30-year-old woman from Corriverton, Berbice, has been detained after police discovered 47 boxes of fireworks at her home during a joint cordon and search operation on Tuesday.
The explosives were found concealed at the residence in the Number 78 Village area, the Guyana Police Force said in a statement. No injuries or other incidents were reported during the operation.
Police said the seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal possession and distribution of fireworks, which pose safety risks, particularly ahead of the festive season.
Investigators are seeking to determine the origin of the fireworks and whether others are involved. Residents have been urged to report suspicious activities related to explosives.
