Jomo Peters, 45, of Haslington New Scheme, East Coast Demerara, died today in an accident on the Rupert Craig Highway near Pump Road.
The accident involved Peters, who was riding motorcycle CR 2701, and two vehicles: motorcar PYY 4296, driven by a 21-year-old woman, and motorcar PAE 9879, driven by a 28-year-old woman.
According to reports, Peters was travelling east along the highway at a reportedly high speed, without a helmet, and overtaking traffic while the ‘third lane’ was in progress. The left handlebar of his motorcycle struck the front left side and rear-view mirror of PYY 4296, causing him to lose control and collide with PAE 9879. He was then flung onto the central reservation, sustaining multiple injuries to his head and body.
Emergency medical teams pronounced Peters dead at the scene. His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
Breathalyser tests conducted on both drivers showed no trace of alcohol. Both drivers remain in custody, assisting police with the ongoing investigation.
