Two remanded for fatal shooting of West Ruimveldt woman

Two men were on Friday remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of 24-year-old Faynel Brewster, who was gunned down at her West Ruimveldt home last Sunday night.
The accused — 27-year-old Shaquile Wilburg and 28-year-old Akande Ross — appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the indictable charge was read to them. It is alleged that on October 19, 2025, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, the men murdered Brewster during an attempted robbery.

Both defendants, who are known to the court, were not required to plead to the indictable charge. They were remanded to prison until their next court appearance.
According to police reports, the fatal shooting occurred around 23:00 hrs on Sunday, October 19, when Brewster was in the yard of her home. Her 31-year-old brother, a businessman, had just returned home on his black XR motorcycle when he was confronted by two identifiable men—one of whom was armed with a handgun.
The armed suspect allegedly attempted to rob the businessman of his motorcycle and gold chains, resulting in a scuffle. During the confrontation, the gunman discharged several rounds, two of which struck Brewster—one to her upper right arm and another to her left lower chest.
She was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
The suspects fled the scene on a black XR motorcycle heading north, without taking any property.
Investigators from the Crime Scene Unit later recovered a 9mm spent shell at the scene. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed as police continue their investigations.
Wilburg and Ross are expected to return to court as the case progresses.
