Ministers Jacobs opens AAG’s 2026 CARIFTA Training Camp

In a groundbreaking event for athletics in Guyana, Minister Steven Jacobs of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport officially inaugurated the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) 2026 CARIFTA Training Camp at the National Racquet Centre on Saturday morning.
This training camp marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind, aimed at preparing young athletes for the upcoming CARIFTA Games.
Amanda Hermonstine, President of the AAG, expressed her enthusiasm for the camp and its potential to elevate the team ahead of the 2026 Games, while Minister Jacobs emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting sports and youth development in Guyana. He also urged the athletes to pay keen attention to both their coaching and academics.
The training camp offers a comprehensive programme designed to enhance athletes’ skills across various disciplines, with expert coaches focusing on technique, fitness, and mental preparation to ensure participants are well-prepared for the CARIFTA Games. The CARIFTA Games are renowned for showcasing the best junior athletes from across the Caribbean, providing a vital platform for young talents to shine.
