The National Sports Commission (NSC) on November 8 will host its Annual National Sports Awards, honouring Guyana’s top athletes, coaches, and officials for their achievements in 2024.
The NSC committee has completed its assessment of submissions from national federations, ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process.

This year’s awards will feature Omari Glasgow, Guyana’s all-time leading football scorer, who has been nominated for Sportsman of the Year following his outstanding performance in the CONCACAF Nations League, where he captured both the Best Young Player and Top Scorer awards. Other nominees include bodybuilder Nicholas Albert, Olympian Emanuel Archibald, and cricketer Ashmead Nedd.
In the Junior Sportsman of the Year category, contenders include track athletes Kaidon Persaud and Malachi Austin, swimmer Raekwon Noel, and chess prodigy Sachin Pitamber.
Nominees for Sportswoman of the Year include top squash players Nicholette Fernandes and Ashley Khalil, Taekwondo athlete Ceili Peterson, and bodybuilder Rosanna Fung. Athaleyah Hinckson, who won Guyana’s first gold medal at the CARIFTA Games U17 level, has been nominated for Junior Sportswoman of the Year, alongside Tianna Springer, the CARIFTA 400m champion.
The event will also recognise the Coach of the Year, Association of the Year, and Sports Official of the Year, while the Media Awards will honour journalists for their outstanding sports coverage.
