A 15-year-old Annandale Secondary School student died on Thursday morning after being struck by a car driven by a female police corporal on the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara, the Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed.
The accident occurred at about 07:30 hrs and involved motor car PAB 214, the Ministry confirmed in a statement. The student, identified as Navindra Mahes, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he later died from his injuries.
Police ranks have been providing support to the victim’s family, and the driver has been placed under close arrest as investigations continue.
The ministry expressed condolences to Mahes’s relatives, friends, and school community, and said the matter is being handled “with the utmost seriousness, transparency, and in accordance with established procedures.”
