Region Two’s brightest students were among those honoured on Thursday as the Department of Education, Pomeroon–Supenaam, hosted its Annual Regional Awards Ceremony to celebrate outstanding achievements in education.

Leading the list of awardees was Kalissa Haimpersaud of Huist Dieren Primary, the region’s top performer at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), followed by Shivani Singh and Aadilah Khan. Tapakuma Lake Primary was named the Best Performing Primary School with an 88 percent pass rate, while Mashabo Primary earned recognition for the greatest overall improvement.

At the secondary level, Avish Ganesh emerged as the top CSEC performer with eighteen Grade Ones and three Grade Twos, while Yunhi Zhou topped the CAPE examinations. Mr. Parmanand Singh, SEND Officer, was recognised as the top EMC performer.

Regional Education Officer Ms. Shondelle Hercules praised the region’s improved performance at the NGSA, noting that Mathematics results increased from 40 to 54 percent, English from 59 to 66 percent, Science from 48 to 58 percent, and Social Studies from 56 to 60 percent.

The ceremony also recognised four Cyril Potter College of Education teachers—Bindi Singh, Tavita Chester, Ahilia Naithram, and Raywattie Deonarine—for excellence in their respective programmes.

In his remarks, Regional Chairman Devin Mohan congratulated all awardees, commending the Department of Education for its efforts to strengthen education through upgraded infrastructure, modern resources, and expanded information technology access.
