Jagadhwar Mohan, a 29-year-old labourer of Lusignan Pasture, East Coast Demerara, drowned on Saturday morning while collecting ‘puri leaf’ at Annandale Access Road/Sideline Dam, East Coast Demerara.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred between 07:10 hrs and 07:25 hrs as Mohan, who was in the company of two men, slipped into a deep section of a trench and disappeared underwater. He was later pulled out in an unconscious state and pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Technicians.
Police said the body bore no marks of violence and was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for storage, pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
