Falling tree limb kills Pomeroon miner

Methuselah Charles, a 50-year-old gold miner of Friendship Canal, Lower Pomeroon River, died on Thursday morning following a tragic accident at Arawak Backdam, Cuyuni River.

Reports indicate that around 10:30 hrs, Charles and a coworker were cutting wood for construction work when a tree limb reportedly fell and struck him. The coworker, who was some distance away at the time, later found Charles lying motionless.

He was transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
