Two people were killed on Sunday in a collision on the Silver Hill stretch of the Soesdyke–Linden Highway, police in Regional Division 4 ‘B’ said.
The victims were identified as Deron Bobb, a woman whose age and address have not yet been confirmed, and Wayne Clarke, 51, of Grove Village, East Bank Demerara.
Police said the crash occurred at about 18:30 hrs when a southbound car, PHH 1632, driven by a 28-year-old man from Grove Village, lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with another car, PAG 1280, driven by a 22-year-old woman from Moblissa. Two children, ages 6 and 2, were also in the second vehicle.
PHH 1632 overturned, throwing its occupants from the vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced Bobb and Clarke dead at the scene. The driver of PHH 1632 was hospitalized in critical condition at the Linden Hospital Complex.
The driver and occupants of the second vehicle were also injured and taken to the same hospital.
Police said the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for post-mortem examinations. An investigation is under way.
