Essequibo youths dazzle at Kala Utsav 2025

Essequibo youths dazzled at the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s Kala Utsav 2025 on Sunday, securing top awards across several categories at the Dharmic Sanskritik Kendra in Prashad Nagar.

More than 50 participants from the Essequibo Coast Praant took part in the competition.

Essequibo captured 1st Prize in Classical Dance and Folk Dance, 3rd Prize in Ramayan Chanting, and earned multiple participant awards in singing, kirtan and instrumental music.

Dharmic Sabha President Dr. Vindhya Persaud praised the youths’ commitment, noting that weeks of training focused on pronunciation, stage presence and devotion. Choreographer Ravindra Deowattie highlighted the intensive work put in by the dance teams, while performer Bomeka Singh said the experience boosted confidence and cultural pride.

India’s High Commissioner, Dr. Amit Telang, also commended the initiative, saying youth participation in the arts strengthens cultural preservation.

Organisers said the performances reflected strong teamwork, steady parental support and a growing interest in preserving Hindu cultural traditions.
