A 30-year-old Corentyne man died late Thursday night in a crash along the Alness Public Road, Berbice, police said.
Davendra Sydney of Lot 232 Bushlot Village was flung from a car that reportedly turned turtle around 23:20 hrs. He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The vehicle, PWW 6986, was driven by its 31-year-old owner from John’s Settlement. Police said the car was travelling east at an alleged high speed when the driver lost control, causing it to overturn and come to rest on a nearby bridge.
Both men were assisted by public-spirited citizens. The driver, who suffered multiple bruises, remains hospitalized. Police said a breathalyzer test showed readings of 77 and 74 micrograms, both over the legal limit.
The body was taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
