In a stunning display of dominance, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club solidified its reign in local women’s football by clinching the Women’s Division One League Cup with a decisive 2–0 victory over fierce rivals, the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
The grand finale, held at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Facility in Providence, saw the GDF side deliver a masterclass performance, further enhancing their trophy haul for the season.
The triumph completed a remarkable double for the army team, who had earlier secured the league title after an unbeaten campaign.
What was billed as a highly anticipated showdown between two powerhouse teams quickly became a showcase of GDF’s superiority. Shenessa Cornelius opened the scoring in the 12th minute after capitalising on a defensive error.
GDF put the result beyond doubt just four minutes into the second half when Glendy Lewis struck in the 49th minute.
Earlier in the playoff, Santos edged Fruta Conquerors 1–0, with Gabriel Rivero scoring the decisive goal in the 12th minute.
