Nicholas Fredericks, a 25-year-old gold miner from Wakapau, Lower Pomeroon River, was fatally stabbed during an incident in Wakapau Village early on Monday, police said.
Fredericks had attended a community event earlier in the night when an altercation reportedly occurred. He was later found lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds and taken to the Wakapau Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is pending. An 18-year-old gold miner has been arrested and is assisting with the investigation. Police said inquiries are ongoing.
