After much anticipation, the Bayrock Track and Field Stadium in Wismar, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), is poised for its spectacular debut on January 31, 2026.
A dynamic team, spearheaded by Sports Ministers Charles Ramson Jr. and Steven Jacobs, made a visit to the mining town this past Saturday to evaluate the state-of-the-art facility just days before its official unveiling.
The visit revealed that all major construction is complete, including the installation of sleek seating and a cutting-edge track, with only a few minor touches left to finalise in the coming week.
Construction began in 2023 when Builders Hardware and Supplies secured the $179 million contract, initially slated for completion by the end of 2024.
However, the project faced significant hurdles along the way. After a year-long wait, the highly anticipated installation of the synthetic surface began in March 2025 and is set to make the stadium the hub of sports in the region.
