The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) recently marked a proud moment for local football with an official cheque presentation ceremony held at the National Training Centre (NTC) in Providence, celebrating the achievements of clubs and standout players from the Women’s Division One League Cup and the Super 16 Cup during the 2025 season.
GFF Vice President Dion Inniss and General Secretary Pushpargha Chattopadhyay led the ceremony, presenting prize cheques to deserving teams and individuals as part of the federation’s ongoing commitment to rewarding excellence and strengthening football development across the country.
The Women’s Division One League Cup season concluded on a high note, reflecting the continued growth and competitiveness of women’s football in Guyana. Guyana Defence Force FC emerged as champions after an impressive campaign, earning the top prize of $300,000, while a strong showing from Guyana Police Force FC secured them second place and $200,000. Santos FC and Fruta Conquerors FC also closed the season with commendable performances, finishing third and fourth respectively, and were rewarded for their efforts throughout the tournament.
Attention then turned to the Super 16 Cup, which delivered intense matches, passionate fan support, and memorable moments. Western Tigers FC capped off a dominant run by claiming the championship and the largest prize on offer of $2,000,000, while Slingerz FC finished as worthy runners-up for the $1,000,000 second prize. Guyana Defence Force FC once again demonstrated their consistency by placing third, with Guyana Police Force FC rounding out the top four after a competitive showing.
Individual brilliance was also recognised during the ceremony, with Kevon Woodley standing out as one of the tournament’s most influential players. His performances earned him both the Golden Ball as the Most Valuable Player and the Golden Boot as the competition’s top goal scorer. Meanwhile, Joel Yhap was honoured for his outstanding contributions between the posts, receiving the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper.
The ceremony underscored the GFF’s dedication to acknowledging hard work, talent, and success at every level, while reinforcing its commitment to investing in the continued growth of football in Guyana.
