The New Amsterdam Public Hospital (NAPH) said a recent case involving a 24-week pregnancy loss is under review by its Morbidity and Mortality Committee as part of routine internal procedures to ensure quality care and accountability.
The hospital said the patient presented to the Emergency Department with abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding and was diagnosed with a previable threatened abortion at 24 weeks’ gestation. She was admitted for ongoing monitoring and medical management but unfortunately experienced a pregnancy loss.
Medical officials noted that, according to clinical definitions, a pregnancy loss before 28 weeks is classified as an abortus. The patient received both medical and psychosocial support during her hospitalization.
NAPH extended condolences to the mother and her family and reaffirmed its commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care.
