Driver in deadly Bharrat Jagdeo River Bridge accident was unlicensed

The driver in a deadly accident on Thursday on the southern carriageway of the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge, East Bank Demerara, was unlicensed and unable to produce vehicle documents, police said.

The crash killed 24-year-old Scott Jacob Dorwart of Grove, East Bank Demerara. A second victim, 23-year-old Anand John of Anna Catherina, was injured and remains in critical condition at Georgetown Public Hospital.
The driver and owner of the lorry are in police custody as investigations continue. Traffic Chief Mahendra Singh said a thorough investigation into the incident is being conducted.
