A 23-year-old lorry driver has been hit with additional charges following a fatal crash on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge, police said on Wednesday.
Jomel Kenny, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to maintain proper control of a vehicle, and inadequate vehicle maintenance.
He pleaded not guilty to the latter two offences and was not required to enter a plea for the indictable charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Kenny was initially charged on January 30 with driving without a licence, breach of insurance regulations, and faulty packing of his load after the January 29 crash. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded until February 4.
He was granted bail of G$2.15 million, and the case was adjourned to April 2, 2026, for trial.
