A 50-year-old man died on Wednesday after an excavator he was operating toppled off a trailer and pinned him at Mango Landing, Region 10, police said.
The victim, Balram Jhaman of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital Complex.
Police in Regional Division No. 10 said preliminary investigations indicate that an articulated motor lorry, GAL 8612, was parked facing west along the southern side of the Mabura Trail with an excavator secured on its trailer.
Investigators said Jhaman reportedly entered the excavator and attempted to move it off the trailer when the machine capsized and fell into a nearby ditch, trapping him underneath.
He sustained multiple injuries about his body and was taken to hospital, where a doctor on duty confirmed his death.
