A domestic dispute between two brothers left one man dead at Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast, on Friday afternoon.
Dead is 57-year-old Leslie Edwards, also known as “Bumpy”, a labourer of the community. Reports indicate that Edwards was at home with his 59-year-old brother when an argument reportedly started between them at about 14:10 hrs.
The disagreement allegedly escalated into violence, during which the older brother armed himself with a garden hoe and dealt several blows to Edwards about the body.
Police ranks who responded to the scene found Edwards lying motionless in the yard. He was rushed to Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
The suspect was taken into custody and later escorted to Lima Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention under police guard.
The body of the deceased has been placed at the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination, as police continue their investigations into the incident.
