A 69-year-old pedestrian, Anjanie Mohabir, died Tuesday evening after being struck by a motorcycle on Industry Public Road, East Coast Demerara, police said.
The accident occurred around 17:50 when a motorcycle carrying a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old female pillion rider collided with Mohabir as she crossed the road. Authorities said the motorcycle was on the pedestrian walkway while traffic had stopped to allow her to cross.
All three sustained injuries and were taken to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Mohabir died during treatment; the pillion rider was admitted for observation, and the driver was treated and released.
Police are investigating the incident. CCTV footage has been reviewed and will be obtained, and a breathalyzer test on the driver showed no alcohol. The motorcycle remains lodged, and the driver is in custody assisting with the probe.
