Herbert Hartman, 29, a labourer of Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was found dead with several chop wounds about his body on Monday morning, prompting a police investigation into an alleged murder.
Police in Regional Division #3 said the discovery was made around 06:00 hrs at the man’s residence at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased and a 23-year-old construction worker of Tuschen Housing Scheme, who is known to him, were earlier at a worksite in the area where they were allegedly imbibing alcohol.
Police said an argument reportedly ensued between the two men, during which the suspect allegedly threatened the deceased before leaving the location.
It is alleged that the suspect later went to the deceased’s residence armed with a cutlass, where an altercation occurred.

The body was escorted to the DeKinderen Regional Hospital where it was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. It was subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police later contacted the suspect, who was arrested and remains in custody assisting with investigations.
