Small Business Bureau offers up to $1.2M grants for eco-friendly innovations

The Small Business Bureau (SBB) has launched the 2026 Green Technology Fund, offering up to $1.2 million per applicant to support innovative and environmentally sustainable business solutions.

According to a release, the programme is designed to help entrepreneurs and small businesses develop climate-smart technologies and adopt eco-friendly practices, reinforcing Guyana’s national focus on sustainable development and economic growth.

Since 2020, the fund has supported 53 entrepreneurs with a total investment of over $54 million. Projects previously backed include drone-based fertilisation and pesticide application, the production of organic fertiliser from animal waste, and the development of tax-compliant integrated business applications.

Chief Executive Officer of the Small Business Bureau, Mohamed Shazim Ibrahim, said the fund provides a valuable opportunity for entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions that address environmental challenges while strengthening their businesses.

To qualify, applicants must be registered clients of the Small Business Bureau and submit a detailed business proposal outlining their green innovation. Proposals should include equipment needs, cost analysis, utilisation of technology or process improvements, environmental considerations, financial statements, cash flow projections, and supplier quotations.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their proposals to a panel of judges, with selected entrepreneurs receiving funding to implement their projects.

The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2026. Applications can be submitted via email to info@sbb.gov.gy or delivered to the Small Business Bureau office at Lot 1 La Penitence, Georgetown (upstairs of the National Printers Building).

The SBB said it remains committed to fostering innovation, supporting sustainability, and empowering small businesses across Guyana through targeted programmes and strategic partnerships.
