Faith, friendship and games defined the Caribbean Union Conference 2026 SDA Camporee “Greatness 2: The Rise of an Empire,” which brought together more than 3,000 youths from across the Caribbean at the Adventist Campsite at Loo Creek, Linden.
Participants from Suriname, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines took part in tug of war, volleyball, water relays, obstacle challenges, road relays, kayaking, and shuttle running, in a week marked by faith-based fellowship, teamwork and regional unity.
A drum-off drew major excitement as crowds of more than 3,000 cheered through high-energy rounds, with South Leeward Conference (SLC) defeating defending champions Upper East Coast (UPEC) Federation in a closely contested final that capped days of spirited competition.
RESILIENCE
Despite heavy rain turning parts of the grounds into muddy terrain, campers continued competing in events that tested endurance, resilience and determination. Volleyball matches also attracted strong spectator turnout throughout the week.
Beyond the sporting events, campers engaged in daily fellowship activities rooted in faith, alongside pin trading, memorabilia exchanges, and cultural interaction with international guests. Many participants also constructed tents and makeshift furniture using natural materials, reflecting adaptability and community spirit during the outdoor programme.
KEY ADDRESSES
The camporee opened with a ceremony featuring delegations from participating countries, underscoring the spiritual foundation of the gathering. President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali highlighted the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s contribution to education, health, youth development and the promotion of values across the region.
CARU President Dr Kern Tobias praised Guyana’s role as host, citing its strong SDA membership, scenic environment and growing development profile.
The event was coordinated by CARU’s youth department. Youth leaders Pastor Marvyn Smith and Lennox Jason said the camp emphasised holistic youth development through a balance of faith, discipline and recreation.
The camp closed with a concert by Bj’orn Pierre, as campers departed following emotional farewells after a week of fellowship, worship, competition and friendship.
