A 23-year-old driver died in a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Bernard North of Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, the driver of motor car PAJ 6755.
Police said the accident also involved motor pickup GAJ 761, driven by a 32-year-old man from Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, with a 33-year-old female passenger from Bangkok, Thailand.
Initial investigations indicate that the motor car was travelling east at an alleged fast rate when the driver reportedly lost control, crossed onto the southern side of the road, and collided with the front right side of the westbound pickup.
North was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. The pickup driver and passenger were treated for injuries.
The body is at Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said a breathalyser test conducted on the pickup driver showed no trace of alcohol. CCTV footage has been obtained and will be reviewed as investigations continue.
