Elton Lilly, called “Daddy,” 55, a fisherman of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, was fatally stabbed on Sunday night along the Golden Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Police in Regional Division #4 ‘C’ said the incident occurred around 23:05 hrs. Preliminary investigations revealed that Lilly and the suspect, who are known to each other, were allegedly imbibing at a bar when an altercation reportedly ensued.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Lilly.
Ranks responded to the report and, on arrival, found Lilly lying in a pool of blood with several wounds about his body. A knife suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered in the vicinity of the bar and secured.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded, and Lilly was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor on duty. His body was later identified by a male relative and taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect, a 49-year-old security guard of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, has since been arrested and remains in custody.
Investigations are ongoing.
