A 17-year-old boy of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, has died following an alleged stabbing incident on Wednesday evening near Croal Street, in the vicinity of the Route 40 Minibus Park, Georgetown.
The deceased, identified as Keroy Profit, was among a group of students reportedly engaged in horseplay around 18:00hrs when the incident occurred.
Police in Regional Division #4 ‘A’ said preliminary investigations indicate that Profit and another 17-year-old male, who are known to each other, were involved in the activity when the situation escalated.
During the incident, the other teenager, who was reportedly armed with a pair of scissors, allegedly stabbed Profit to the neck.
The injured teen was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he later succumbed while receiving medical treatment.
His body was escorted to the hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police said CCTV footage has been reviewed and several persons have been questioned as part of the investigation.
The 17-year-old suspect of Cummings Park, ‘E’ Field, Sophia, has been arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue.
