Bibi Hamidan Bacchus of Cotton Field on the Essequibo Coast celebrated her 103rd birthday on Saturday, surrounded by relatives, friends and well-wishers.
The celebration included a Muslim prayer ceremony during which blessings were offered for her continued health, happiness and peace.
Officials from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security joined family members in honouring the centenarian, who was presented with warm wishes and gifts as part of the government’s annual recognition programme for senior citizens over 100 years old.
Family members expressed gratitude to the ministry for participating in the celebration and for its continued support for elderly citizens across the country.
The ministry said it continues to honour centenarians throughout Guyana with annual birthday hampers in recognition of their contributions, wisdom and enduring legacy within their communities.
