New bond scheme to channel diaspora funds into development projects

The government of Guyana will launch a diaspora bond within a week to raise funds from citizens living abroad for public infrastructure projects, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali said on Tuesday.
Ali made the announcement at a press conference at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, held as part of the country’s Diamond Jubilee Independence celebrations.
He said the initiative is intended to give members of the diaspora an opportunity to contribute directly to national development.
“Members of the diaspora, here is your opportunity to make your contribution and be part of the massive transformation taking place in our country,” Ali said.
The bond will channel diaspora savings into infrastructure investment as the country advances its development agenda.
