Team spirit high as Guyana prepares for Barbados Rugby match

The Guyana national rugby team is heading into its upcoming international fixture in Barbados with confidence, as the Guyana Rugby Football Union says the squad is well-prepared to secure a positive result away from home.

Union president Ryan Gonsalves said the team had drawn lessons from its previous match against Bermuda and had worked to correct mistakes exposed in that encounter.

“We believe that this team now that we have travelling, we have a very good chance of bringing home this game. We definitely learned from the mistakes in the last game from Bermuda at home,” Gonsalves said.

He said preparations had been affected by persistent rainfall, which disrupted training sessions and match simulations, but insisted the squad remained focused.

“So we have been working on those mistakes. The coaches have been putting in tremendous work even though we having a lot of rain that is interrupting our match practice and stuff but we not worried about that,” he added.

Despite the challenges, Gonsalves said the team was in good physical condition and had been working hard ahead of the overseas fixture.

“What can I say, the squad is in good shape and the guys have been working hard. They just need to get it done,” he said.

Guyana is scheduled to face Barbados on June 6.
