Shaeed Mohammed, called “Max”, a 23-year-old resident of Providence, East Bank Essequibo, was on Tuesday formally charged with the murder of seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed, whose death has shocked the Zeelugt community.
Mohammed appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on June 5, 2026, at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, Mohammed murdered the seven-year-old child.
The accused was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
The charge was instituted following legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Mohammed was remanded to prison, and the matter was adjourned to July 20, 2026, for a report on statements.
Mohammed was arrested on Saturday during the course of the police investigation and reportedly confessed to the crime.
