Man accused of stealing beaten to death at Honey Camp Landing

Police are investigating an alleged murder of a man whose name was given as “Curry” on Tuesday at Honey Camp Landing, Middle Mazaruni, Region Seven.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, who had no fixed place of abode and did odd jobs at Honey Camp Landing, was allegedly confronted by several men and accused of stealing, police said in a release.

According to the release, during the confrontation, the deceased was allegedly assaulted by the suspects, during which a belt was placed around his neck and he was dragged along the ground. He was also reportedly dealt several lashes to his body with a spade, cutlasses and pieces of wood, while an acidic substance was allegedly thrown on him.

The suspects then left the deceased lying on the sand near an abandoned shop.

Police were summoned and, upon arrival, observed the motionless body of the deceased lying face down in the sand. The body was examined and what appeared to be abrasions and burn marks were seen on his body.

Several statements were obtained and four suspects were subsequently arrested and are presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

Police say checks are being made to apprehend two other suspects as investigations continue.
