Police ranks complete course on emotional intelligence, leadership and de-escalation

Forty-four Region 10 ranks of the Guyana Police Force completed a two-day seminar on Emotional Intelligence aimed at improving their communication skills, leadership qualities and professional development, the force said.

The training, which included officers, inspectors and sergeants, covered adapting communication, managing stress and pressure, de-escalation strategies, empathy in community policing and professional boundaries.

The Force hosted the initiative in collaboration with Pastor Selwyn Sills of Praise Tabernacle Assembly of God Church and Dr Shanti Persaud, a motivational speaker from the John Maxwell School for Influence and Leadership.

Persaud said poor understanding and communication could result in information being misinterpreted by receiving parties, underscoring the importance of emotional intelligence in law enforcement.

The Guyana Police Force said it remained committed to working closely with stakeholders and partners to enhance the professionalism, effectiveness and overall well-being of its ranks.
