A 51-year-old construction worker, Antonio Ignatius, of Lot 77 Triumph Sideline Dam, East Coast Demerara, died on Saturday evening following a road accident on Agriculture Road.
The incident occurred at approximately 19:15 hrs and involved two motor cars—PAH 5305 and PYY 4685—as well as Ignatius, who was a pedestrian at the time.
According to police reports, motor car PAH 5305, driven by a 29-year-old resident of Triumph, was proceeding north along the western side of Agriculture Road at a fast rate. The driver alleged that Ignatius suddenly attempted to cross the road from east to west and walked into the path of the vehicle, resulting in a collision.
The impact reportedly flung the pedestrian into the air before he landed on the road surface, sustaining severe injuries. The car then collided with motor car PYY 4685, which was stationary on the western parapet at the time.
Emergency Medical Technicians from the Melanie Fire Station (EMT #23) responded to the scene, where Ignatius was pronounced dead. His body was later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations are ongoing.
