Guyanese illegally in the US face deportation

Guyanese nationals living in the United States without legal status face prosecution, detention, and deportation under a renewed crackdown on illegal immigration by Washington, Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
In an advisory, the ministry cited a diplomatic note from the US government warning of “strict enforcement measures and legal consequences” for individuals who enter or remain in the United States unlawfully. The move follows the reinstatement of several immigration enforcement policies by US President Donald Trump.
“Nationals currently residing in the United States illegally are strongly advised to depart immediately,” the ministry said, urging Guyanese citizens to respect US immigration laws.
Those who overstay visas or enter the country without proper documentation will be subject to arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, or heavy fines, according to the US notice.
While the United States remains open to legitimate and legal travelers, Washington has made clear that it will prioritise prosecution of immigration offenses as well as crimes committed by foreign nationals, the advisory stated.
The Foreign Ministry called on Guyanese citizens to pursue only legal avenues for migration, employment, education, and travel to the United States.
