In the men’s singles category at the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Championships in Bridgetown, Barbados, Jonathan Van Lange had the best performance for Guyana on Sunday. He faced Puerto Rico’s Angel Naranjo in a best-of-seven match but ultimately lost 4-0, with set scores of 11-6, 11-5, 11-8, and 11-9. Earlier in the tournament, Van Lange triumphed in a challenging round-of-32 match against Barbados’ Romario Gill, winning 4-3 after a closely contested battle that went to a decisive seventh set.
Shemar Britton also competed in the round of 32 but lost to the Dominican Republic’s Ramon Vila 4-2. After dropping the first set 11-4, he rallied to win the second 11-9 and the fourth 13-11, but Vila secured the match by taking the remaining sets. Niran Bissu faced Rafael Cabrera from the Dominican Republic and lost his match 4-1.
In the doubles competition, the Guyanese pairs did not advance past the round of 16.
