A 71-year-old pensioner was killed in an accident on the Le Ressouvenir Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), at around 23:45 hrs on Friday.
Dead is Ramroop Sadaram of Lot 273 Success Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara. The accident involved motor car PAB 9943, driven by a 48-year-old businessman of Good Hope, ECD, and motorcycle CN 8838, ridden by a 27-year-old construction worker of Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD.
Police investigations revealed that the car was proceeding east along the northern driving lane when the driver reportedly heard a loud motorcycle sound. He told police that he looked into his wing mirror and then felt a sudden impact to both the front and rear of his vehicle.
Upon stopping, the driver saw two injured men lying on the road – the pedestrian and the motorcyclist. Emergency Medical Technicians responded and pronounced Sadaram dead at the scene. The injured motorcyclist was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he remains under treatment.
The car driver is in police custody assisting with the investigation. A breathalyser test conducted on him returned readings of 0.017 per cent and 0.019 per cent.
