Rovel Santiago, a 21-year-old gold miner from Mabaruma, Region One, and Shawn Williams, a 20-year-old gold miner from Kuru Kururu Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, were arrested on Saturday and jointly charged with murder today.
The charge was laid contrary to Common Law under the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
The case was called at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before His Worship Teriq Mohammed, where the charge of murder was read to them. They were not required to plead and were both remanded to prison until August 14, 2025 for continuation.
They are accused of committing the offence on Riley Abrams on Saturday, at Balamani Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination was conducted on the body of Abrams on June 30, 2025 by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, who gave the cause of death as “multiple incise wounds.”
