As the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) gears up for its official party launch in Kitty on Sunday, General Secretary Dr Bharrat Jagdeo has indicated that while there will be lots of messages delivered, the central theme will be about unity, progress, patriotism, prosperity, and growth.

Speaking to members of the media during his weekly press briefing at Freedom House today, Dr Jagdeo said he is excited for the launch, while noting that there will be no surprises.

“Multiple messages but all reinforcing the love for this country, working towards progress, bringing our people together— that is what our campaign is about,” he said.

The General Secretary related that all 10 administrative regions in Guyana are included in the party’s development plan, while boasting that the party is looking forward to launch, winning, and continuing work.

He stressed that there are still people who have not benefited from the country’s development but explained that the government will ensure that they are not excluded from the development plan through initiatives such as jobs and better housing.

With regards to Nominations Day on Monday, the Party’s General Secretary revealed that it had a diverse list of young people, in addition to those with experience.

“We’re looking to deliver on a programme. We have competent people who can run sectors. We will put them back. We’re not looking to juggle people around too much for the optics of it. We have a combination of young people and people who have been there with experience, and we are determined at every level in the party. Not just on the list – because people tend to look at the national list, but you also have the regional list, the local government elections and then in our party structures where we support young people all the time,” he said.

Dr Jagdeo further revealed that the list consists of organic supporters who share the party’s vision.

“We’re not doing it for the show of it. These are people who are actually members. It’s easy for us to pick a diverse list because our base is so broad and it reaches into every community,” he said.
