Imam Bacchus and Sons, one of Region Two’s most prominent business establishments, has formally declared its support for President Dr Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) as they seek a second term in office.

Director/Secretary Samad Baksh, a former APNU/AFC Regional Councillor, announced the endorsement while reflecting on the growth and achievements of the family-owned company. Baksh said he distanced himself from the Coalition government after its refusal to accept the results of the national elections.

Baksh highlighted that Imam Bacchus and Sons has been serving the region for over 75 years and has grown from a small team of five employees to a workforce of over 500. He credited the recent success of the business to the stable political climate and economic direction provided by the PPP administration.

“In the last five years, we’ve seen steady growth. The PPP government engages with the grassroots, builds strong international ties, and creates a stable environment for development,” Baksh said. “We need real leaders with real vision—not dream sellers. Without vision, a country can fall into recession and economic stagnation.”

Aadil Baksh, Chief Executive Officer of Imam Bacchus and Sons and former President of the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also endorsed President Ali’s re-election bid. He emphasised the government’s support for all sectors, particularly transportation, noting that improvements in the ferry service have allowed the business to expand its operations and better serve the Essequibo Coast.

Baksh said that their products are reaching international markets and the business is expanding.

“This kind of growth is only possible in an environment where businesses are encouraged to thrive.”

Another Director with responsibility for Education and Outreach, Imam Baksh, noted the company’s recent investment in private education. He said their preschool has grown steadily over the past five years, thanks to the government’s education policies that support private sector involvement.

“This was not possible under the previous administration,” he noted. “The PPP has created conditions where private schools can succeed.”

Baksh also pointed to declining crime rates, increased government outreach, and open communication as key reasons for his continued support of the PPP.

He further commended the PPP government for its firm stance on national issues, particularly the Venezuela border controversy. “I trust this government to defend our sovereignty. No other party has shown the level of loyalty and commitment that the PPP has demonstrated.”
