Driver in deadly hit-and-run accident nabbed

Months after being on the run, Police have captured the driver who allegedly struck down a Berbice family on their electric bike and fled the scene back in March. The accident resulted in the death of nine-month-old Eli Surujnarine. Her teenage parents were also injured in the incident.

An intelligence-led operation, headed by a senior officer in the Springlands Police Station district, was conducted between 18:00 hrs and 18:30 hrs yesterday at Line Path, Corentyne, Berbice. It resulted in the apprehension of Avinash Naidoo, a 32-year-old Corentyne resident, who was involved in a causing death by dangerous driving incident that occurred on 2025-03-02 at Line Path, Corentyne, Berbice.

Naidoo was escorted to the Springlands Police Station, pending further investigation.
